'Green' Features to Make Your Building More Eco-Friendly

Design features to add to your build to improve its sustainability, and reduce its environmental impact (whilst also reducing costs)!

Blog 2 Commercial

There was a time not too long ago when commercial buildings were cold, draughty, dingy, and dark. They were featureless, poorly thought-out buildings where people sat in pigeon-holed spaces, with no consideration of the surrounding elements, climate, or environment. But this is no longer the case!

Today’s commercial buildings, especially the modular buildings that Tasbuilt Commercial designs and constructs, are modern, bright spaces focused not only on employee satisfaction/motivation but on using smart design to help save both money and our precious planet.

It’s well known that companies are becoming increasingly more aware of the correlation between good building design/layout, and happy employees/high productivity levels. But companies are also becoming increasingly focused on the sustainability of their buildings; constantly looking for more ways to increase the ‘eco-friendliness' of their projects to not only reduce running costs and create more comfortable, enjoyable spaces for employees, but for peace of mind that they're minimising their business's environmental impact.

At Tasbuilt there are a range of features we can offer to make your modular commercial building far eco-friendlier and more cost-efficient! Here are just 4 key ones…

1. Insulation

Insulation is the most cost-effective way to increase the eco-efficiency and energy rating of your building. Tasbuilt provides extensive insulation as part of our standard building packages, with options to upgrade and improve your ratings even further. Insulation has the added advantage of providing acoustic barriers, which can reduce noise in your building and employee distractions within your working environment.

2. Windows

The size and layout of your windows can make a big difference to the energy rating of your building. Windows and skylights in the right locations can reduce your requirement for electric lighting and heating. Thoughtful placement of window openings can also complement your cooling requirements by capturing natural airflows. Tasbuilt uses double-glazing for all windows, and UPVC window frames are available as an option to further increase the eco-efficiency of your building.

3. Foyer & Entry Design

Protecting the entry to your building, and incorporating an ‘airlock’ into your foyer, will reduce heating/cooling loss when visitors enter and exit. You can further improve this by adding automatic closing doors, to avoid external doors being left open for prolonged periods of time and your building losing heat/coolness.

4. Solar Panels & Rainwater Harvesting

There are a number of grants and rebates available for adding eco-friendly features to your building, such as solar panels and rainwater tanks. Adding these features allows you to greatly reduce your running costs, and shows your business’s support for sustainability practices at the same time.
