Modular Helps to Turn a Niche Market Into Something Special - Hillwood Berry Farm

We’re revisiting the archives, showcasing that we not only create family dreams, but we can create your commercial aspirations as well – read on to see how we created a small farmgate café that’s now become something of an icon in the Northern Tasmanian ‘farm to table’ scene.

The small town of Hillwood in Tasmania is about 25 kilometres north of Launceston. It's known for its Hillwood Berry Farm, Millers Orchards and other ‘farm to table’ enterprises.

Many years ago, an enthusiastic young couple, recently moved from the mainland and looking to make a mark in Tasmania’s food scene, approached Tasbuilt Homes with a vision for a combined market shop/café focussed on their abundant strawberry crops, and the Hillwood Berry Farm was born!

The modular building was clad in Western Red cedar and toned in perfectly with the surrounding rural landscape. A large timber deck, accessible through double-glazed bi-fold doors was created as the perfect spot for people to gather, and enjoy a chat and one of Berry Farms' iconic strawberry sundaes!

Internally the colours of the strawberry really pop, with benches and splashbacks in vibrant red and green creating a fun and dynamic feel. A commercial kitchen out the back was created for food prep and berry packing. A series of cleverly placed highlight windows let in a healthy dose of natural light.

Next time you are road-tripping, call in at the Berry Farm – we know you won’t be disappointed.

Enjoy the Farmgate Café, and pick some berries of your own – enjoy a great Tasmanian experience.
