TOP TRENDS IN COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION

Trends are always changing, and it’s no different for commercial construction.

From robots to advanced building materials and everything in between, commercial construction and its trends are always evolving. To help you understand some of these trends, we’ve given you a brief overview below.

1. BIM (Building Information Modelling) is an ever-emerging trend in the commercial construction industry. It is essentially a platform for communications and collaboration for all trades working on a project. All relevant data, for example, plans, elevations, and sections are uploaded and can be easily accessed by anyone, whether they are out on the site, or in the office. It has gained a strong following in the construction industry due to the industry recognizing it enhances productivity. Some of the best BIM platforms are Procore, Autocad, and Revit.

2. Construction Robots may never totally eradicate human intervention on a building site but their effectiveness against human labor is increasing, and their effect on construction jobs going forward can’t be ignored. Robots are being used in bricklaying and demolition, and there is now a robot available that sets out frame lines and service locations in multi-storey construction. They can be quickly launched, give a very good view of the site and can move through every level.

3. Advanced Building Material is a very exciting and intriguing trend. Just one example of such material is transparent wood. The process is very technical, but it is increasing in applications due to it being more biodegradable than glass. Another example is self-healing concrete. We all know concrete will crack at different points, having the potential to cause significant problems. Self-healing concrete, also known as bio-concrete, is produced by adding bacteria into the concrete along with nutrients to keep them alive for the production of calcite to fill cracks after precipitation.

4. And where is AI heading in the construction field? Construction companies use AI to analyse project data – such as construction site monitoring and predictive analytics – in real time in order to make informed decisions that have implications on the project's quality, safety, profitability, and schedule.
