We Take 5 with our Council Liaison, Veronica
Veronica is a vibrant and hardworking individual…find out more about her and what she does.
Veronica, tell us a bit about yourself
I’m a Launnie girl that spent 15 years living in Melbourne and then came home again. My working life, up until joining the Tasbuilt team has been in the Performing Arts/Media and Broadcasting – so moving to a job in the building industry was a pretty major life change.
At home, I’m a mum of 3 girls (and a cat and a dog). In my “spare” time, I love running long distances on trails in the bush and up mountains and equally love to complain about it while I’m doing it…
You’re the Council Liaison at Tasbuilt, what does that mean and what is your role?
As the name suggests, I spend a lot of my day talking to councils (and we have a lot in our small state)– I get the necessary permits applied for and approved (doing whatever it takes) for Planning Permit, Building and Plumbing Permits and Occupancy Permits.
I also get all the reports/documents/forms etc. that are needed for each job.
So, I’m not just liaising with the councils – a lot of my days are taken up with the Building Surveyor, Engineers, Plumbers etc.
I think this role is pretty unique in that it might be the only role at Tasbuilt that follows a job from the very start (first site survey) right through to the very end (completion certificates – which is often a long time after hand over and occupancy). I currently have about 55 builds on my radar all at different stages. (not including completions that are still in the works from before my time), so it’s a pretty busy role.
You do the one thing that a lot of clients hate about building – the council process, what key skills and knowledge do you possess to be able to do this role?
I was lucky to come into this role with a pretty well-established procedure – time management and prioritising jobs is pretty crucial and building good relationships is absolutely key. I’m still working on knowledge….
Describe Tasbuilt’s culture in one sentence
The culture at Tasbuilt is very values focused – trusting, collaborative and innovative.
What motivates you every day?
Food….
Where do you see Tasbuilt and the building industry in five years?
Of course, I think modular building will continue to grow, why would anyone want to build any other way! And Tasbuilt will (continue to) be the leader in the industry.
And just for fun…
You work on building approvals as apart of your job…if you could instantly approve one in life (not work related), what would it be?
Hmmm, I think I would be selfish get myself a little holiday/retirement cabin somewhere no one else would ever be allowed to build (Like in a National Park or something)
Pineapple on pizza or not? And why?
Yes, love Pineapple on pizza – sweet and juicy. (I’m also fan of the odd anchovy on pizza….)
